'Pinocchio' faces difficult journey

Problems grew as Miramax scrambled to dub, re-edit film

Pinocchio, the wooden puppet who longed to be human, fared pretty well in Gepetto's workshop. It's when he stepped into the wider world that trouble began.

Now Roberto Benigni's film adaptation of the fable is suffering the same fate.

"Pinocchio" has set box-office records in Italy, where it debuted in October. But the "Life Is Beautiful" actor is a huge star there, and Carlo Collodi's 1883 tale is considered a literary treasure.
