In Italian actor-director Robert Benigni's live-action version of "Pinocchio," the puppet who longs to become a real boy gets his wish. But that doesn't mean the movie ever passes beyond the wooden stage.

The "Life Is Beautiful" star's movie of Carlo Collodi's 1885 tale comes up short on enchantment, but long on law and order.

As wood carver Gepetto's boyish creation, Benigni gets into more trouble than Theodore Cleaver in a "Leave It to Beaver" ...
