William Wordsworth was a British poet who wrote about nature and the
English countryside. Wordsworth was born in Cockermouth, Cumberland.
After studying at Cambridge University, he spent a year in France.
He became a passionate supporter of the French people's struggle for
freedom in the French Revolution. Wordsworth had begun to write poetry
when he returned to Britain. He became a friend of the British poet
Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The two poets published several of their
works together in a collection called Lyrical Ballads (1798).
