The British poet, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, penned the following words in 1798 in a poem entitled, "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner":

"Water, water, every where,

And all the boards did shrink;

Water, water, every where,

Nor any drop to drink."

"Water, water every where, Nor any drop to drink" is the Mariner's lament because around him is only seawater. Little did Coleridge know that two hundred years later, these words were likely to become the lament of a world facing serious--and dangerous--water shortages.
