Recreation aides rushed around Monday, taping scripts to a podium and a table, placing props in a bookshelf and dividing the makeshift stage with a white sheet in preparation for the first dress rehearsal of "A Christmas Carol."

Wednesday night, eight children and four adults brought the well-known Dickens work to life in a performance at the Booker T. Washington Community Center in Auburn.

"I'm nervous about messing up and getting stage fright," said Teesha Barnes, 8, who was playing Mrs. Fezziwig and Tiny Tim.
