NORFOLK -- Nelson Dickinson can now describe stepping into Booker T. Washington High School in 1967 as a ``magic moment.''

He has learned life-long lessons, walked a mile in someone else's shoes and seen how ``those people'' lived after being one of the first three non-black students to integrate the all-black school.

But back then, he was just a scared 18-year-old. It didn't matter that he was a Quapaw Indian. He looked white.
