Jun. 13--The Booker T. Washington Center has financial problems, but its leader vowed that the inner-city neighborhood center would remain open.

It may not have a medical clinic or an after-school program that lasts through June, but the center, 1720 Holland St., will not close its doors, executive director William Jeffress said.

"We will learn to operate within our means," Jeffress said.
