Feb. 26--Freshman Christiana Shorter hit four straight free throws in the final 36 seconds that allowed No. 8 Booker T. Washington to hold off No. 7 Union 40-37 for the Class 6A regional girls basketball championship Saturday.

A UMAC crowd of 300 watched the Hornets (17-7) win their second straight regional trophy and advance to next week's area winner's bracket action. Union (18-6) will also go to area, but through the consolation side. Area site and times have yet to be determined.
