SAN LORENZO -- Nearly a century after his death, the great- granddaughter of Booker T. Washington -- the foremost educator and leader of African Americans in the late 19th and early 20th centuries -- is work-

ing to make a difference in the lives of others.

Sarah Rush of San Lorenzo has created the Booker T. Washington Empowerment Network to help people lead lives of personal, professional and emotional success.

Through workshops, newsletters and public appearances, Rush is promoting a message of self-help, the dignity of labor and the value of a practical education for African Americans.
