-Walnut Ridge High School of Columbus beat Walt Whitman High School of Bethesda Saturday to win the final round of the Fifth National Academic Championship at Ohio State University.
Walnut Ridge scored 340 points and Walt Whitman scored 260 in the finals.
The Walt Whitman team included seniors Gaius Stern, Evan Sherbrooke, David Taube and Kim Goodman. Their academic adviser is Rosalie Sherbrooke.
Walt Whitman defeated Booker T. Washington High School of Tulsa 320-285 earlier Saturday to earn a berth in the championship round.
