Nineteen ninety-five was the year of cinematic period pieces, costume dramas, and adaptations of several novels by Jane Austen. Three such films-Braveheart, Restoration, and Sense and Sensibility-garnered nineteen Oscar nominations; all three were nominated for best costume design. Collectively, they received eight Academy Awards, including those for art direction and costume design (Restoration) and best picture (Braveheart) (Ross).
