Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights has been named Britain's favourite love story of all time.

The 1847 tale of thwarted love between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, set on the Yorkshire moors, pipped classics by Daphne du Maurier, DH Lawrence and Bronte's elder sister Charlotte in the poll.

Pride And Prejudice, Jane Austen's novel about the love affair that develops between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy amid a mother's fixation on finding husbands for her five unmarried daughters, came second, after Emily Bronte's only surviving novel.
