Plot:
On the simplest level of the action, we have the story of the progress of
several romances which overcome numerous mistakes, misunderstandings, and
other obstacles to culminate in marriage, Matchmaking - both by lovers for
themselves and by others for them - thus dominates the physical action. The
book opens with a marriage (Miss Taylor and Mr. Weston) and a discussion of
matchmaking (I), closes with three marriages (Emma and George Knightley, Jane
and Frank, Harriet and Robert Martin), has one midway through (Augusta and Mr.
