"The Birds" by Aristophanes will be the fall production for the Guilford College Theatre Studies Department.

This modern adaptation of an ancient Greek comedy is about two youths who are disillusioned with urban life and civilization and decide to leave the metropolis in search of utopia.

The cast - mainly students playing birds - is one of the largest casts in the department's recent history. The play is directed by Ellen O'Brien, a theatre studies professor.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Nov. 8-9 and 14-16 in Sternberger Auditorium at Guilford College.
