Strange Fits Of Passion Have I Known
The poet will tell of a strange fit of passion that he has known, but he
will tell his message only to lovers. The reason for such exclusiveness is
that only the lover would understand the curious psychological responses that
he has experienced while approaching Lucy's cottage ("cot"). A reading of the
other four Lucy poems would mean that we read this one knowing that Lucy is
dead at the time the poet tells of this strange fit of passion. However,
