Our eternal fascination with circling the globe was evident in the 1873 Jules Verne novel "Around the World in 80 Days." Today, technology has made the trip a lot faster.

"Within 48 hours, you can be anywhere," said Bertram van Munster, executive producer and co-creator of "The Amazing Race 4." "You can be at the South Pole and back to New York. It's relatively easy to circumnavigate the world in a week."
