Sailing: MacArthur enlists aid in Jules Verne record bid

ELLEN MACARTHUR, arguably the world's leading monohull transatlantic skipper, has confirmed she will switch to multihulls in an attempt to beat the round-the-world record.

The 26-year-old Englishwoman, recent winner of the Route du Rhum single- handed transatlantic race in her 60-foot monohull Kingfisher, picked 13 crew members - all men - to tackle the Jules Verne Trophy.

The record for a round-the-world journey is held by Frenchman Bruno Peyron and his crew in 64 days, eight hours, 37 minutes and 24 seconds.
