Aspacecraft shot into orbit early yesterday bound for an international space station, loaded with more than five tons of fuel, food, water, clothing, spare parts and other supplies.

Named after the 19th-century science fiction author Jules Verne, the unmanned freighter was lofted into space on the back of an Ariane V rocket from the jungle in French Guiana.

The European Space Agency (ESA) craft is heading slowly towards the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS) with the aim of docking on April 3.
