It's not just the 100th anniversary of Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle," which in 1906 exposed the horrific working conditions of the Chicago stockyards, it's also the 100th anniversary of "The Jungle"-spawned Pure Food and Drugs Act, which has evolved into today's Food and Drug Administration. First bringing food and drugs under federal regulatory jurisdiction, today the FDA is responsible for nearly all the food made, marketed and sold in the nation.
