Vietnamese refugees find home, hope for reunion

ROSEMEAD - Far from an Upton Sinclair novel, the story of Minh Le's immigration to the United States three months ago is one of hopefulness and opportunity.

"I'm very happy," Le, 47, said last week, a grin splitting his face.

Le and his son, Tuan, 19, arrived here Sept. 26 from the Philippines, where they were stranded for 16 years as stateless refugees after fleeing Vietnam.

When we first met them, the father and son were still dazed after a long plane flight from Manila and entirely uncertain about their future.
