Before we embark on a chapter-by-chapter analysis of The Jungle, it will
be helpful to define our critical terms and establish an overview of
Sinclair's story, his themes, and the techniques he used to achieve his
effects.

Story And Plot

In analyzing fiction, we find it valuable to distinguish between story
and plot. Story is the chronological order in which the events occurred. Plot
