It's become almost de rigeur. Film a special documentary for PBS ("Civilization," "Cosmos," "The Civil War"), and also come up with a lavish and expensive companion book. These handsomely packaged coffee- table books are usually sufficiently caffeinated to zoom onto most bestseller lists and hang around.
