Mercantile, Mark Twain banks will merge

ST. LOUIS - Mercantile Bancorporation Inc. and Mark Twain Bancshares Inc. said today they signed a definitive agreement to merge in a stock swap valued at about $855 million.
Under the terms of the agreement, Mark Twain shareholders will receive 0.952 Mercantile common shares, for each Mark Twain common share, Mercantile said in a press release.
Mark Twain shares rose $3.62 1/2, or more than 8 percent, to close at $46 on the New York Stock Exchange after the news. Mercantile shares were down $2, or 5 percent, at $50, also on the NYSE. Mercantile said that Mark Twain directors have ...
