High school students from Moscow barely edged their Evanston opponents in a literary competition that concluded this week.
Considering that some of the Soviets study until 4 a.m., the American kids were lucky the score was so close.
The two teams were contestants on a Soviet TV program, "Obraz" (Russian for "image"), which tests a student's ability to interpret literature.
The first round, focusing on Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace and Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, was taped in February in Moscow. The Soviets won, 20-18.
