Chapter VII

Tom And Becky.

To help the time pass until the noon recess, Tom takes out the tick he
got from Huck, and begins playing with it. His friend Joe Harper, sitting
next to him, joins in the play. They draw a line on the slate and each boy
tries to keep the tick from crossing the line. They enjoy themselves until
the schoolmaster, who has tiptoed down on them from behind while they are
absorbed in the game, belts them. Recess comes at last. Tom tells Becky to
give the rest of the girls the slip and double ...
