The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer: An Overview
The events of Tom Sawyer happen before those of Huck Finn. The story of
Tom Sawyer deals with the misadventures, really, of several children in the
little Missouri village of St. Petersburg, about thirty years before the Civil
War. The story takes place, that is, sometime during the 1830s.
As the story opens we get a picture of Tom Sawyer, his half-brother Sid
and his Aunt Polly. Tom is not the "Model Boy" of the village, nor does he
