HARTFORD, Conn. -- The author of a controversial best-selling book that focuses on the history and usage of one of the most hateful words in the English language has been chosen as the inaugural speaker for a new lecture series on social issues sponsored by The Mark Twain House.

On Thursday, November 14, Harvard Law School Professor Randall Kennedy, author of Nigger: The Strange Career of a Troublesome Word, will take the podium to kick off "A Pen Warmed Up In Hell" lecture series that honors Twain's work as a social critic.
