War And Peace: First Epilogue
Chapter One:
Tolstoy, as if unable to let his world go from him, wrote two long
epilogues, giving further analysis of the operations of its principles. He
brings us to the year 1820. He contrasts again and more explicitly the
characters of Napoleon the egoist and Alexander, who receiving all the power
of Europe into his hands after the defeat of Napoleon, renounced it.
