This Book will cover events of the years 1811-1812. We return to Pierre.
More than ever before he questions the whole purpose of his life: "Only the
skeleton of life remained" and "dull formalities." He returns to his life
of drinking and carousing and leaves Petersburg for Moscow, where "he felt
at peace-as in an old dressing gown." His heart and purse are so good,
