In "Henry Hikes to Fitchburg," New Hampshire writer D.B. Johnson spins a tale inspired by a passage from Henry David Thoreau's "Walden."
Thoreau reasoned that walking from Concord to Fitchburg was faster than riding, since one needn't spend time working for the train fare.
In Johnson's book, a bear named Henry bets his friend that he can walk the 30 miles to Fitchburg faster than the friend can ride there.
