Henry David Thoreau wrote that "The universe is wider than our view of it."
It's strange to quote a dead, white man who was a recluse in the backwoods of Boston more than a century ago to make a point about a modern-day march involving black women. But I just returned from Walden Pond, and after thinking about it and speaking to others, those words rang true to me.
Before the march, I raised the question of purpose. Like others, I wrestled for weeks about attending the well-meaning event, despite its meandering mission.
