The annual cartoon collection of our own Jonathan Swift, Jonathan Shapiro, aka Zapiro, is once again awash with grotesqueries.

On the cover of Take Two Veg and Call Me in the Morning (Jacana Media, R130), Manto Tshabalala-Msimang appears as a drunken wreck. In one hand is a bottle of Jack Daniels, in the other, a medicine bag full of veg. Her pockets overflow with stolen watches and jewels.
