Jonathan Swift once observed: "When a true genius appears in the world you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him."

By that standard, outgoing Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Tony Leon deserves a Nobel Prize in politics. Just look at who is lining up to take potshots at him.

Premier Ebrahim Rasool, fresh from Tony Yengeni's farewell parade, claimed Leon "did not succeed in making the DA acceptable to black people".

Rasool, of course, never had the chance to resign as ANC provincial leader.
