IT WAS Jonathan Swift who observed of a certain category of Christian that "We have just enough religion to make us hate, but not enough to make us love one another".
Whether or not the wit and wisdom of the great satirist has much currency within the ranks of the British National Party is debatable. Probably not, since the winkling away at irrational fears and the peddling of naked prejudice are the usual stock-in-trade of the bigots of the BNP and the boneheads who vote for them, rather than penetrating insight.
