"Is Santa coming?" 9-year-old Lucero Galeana asked earnestly.

Lucero, a third-grader at Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School, was expecting to see the big man in the red suit after receiving a coat, crayons and a coloring book from some of his "elves."

Thanks to the generosity of readers of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Daily Southtown, Pioneer Press and Star Newspapers, Christmas was a little brighter for 19,000 children, including 1,100 kids at Stowe, 3444 W. Wabansia.
