Maine's mysterious forests, deep lakes and rocky coasts have served as inspiration to many writers over the years. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, E.B. White and Harriet Beecher Stowe are just a few who penned some of their greatest works while residing in the state.

One new local writer on the scene finds other inspirations in the wilderness of Maine, however.

"For me it's the people," said Carrie Jones, an Ellsworth resident who is publishing her third novel, "Girl, Hero," in August. "I like the fact that you can walk down the street and people smile."
