Beginning on July 23, 2005, on a lake shore near Walenstadt, Switzerland, a group of London and Swiss producers using the Alps as a back drop and a revolving stage to allow scenes from a Frankfort home, staged a new outdoors musical based on the tale by Johanna Spyri of the orphan Heidi. The print version of Spyri's story became a world best seller - over 50 million copies.
