West suffers first TCAL loss

TRACY -- It had to end sometime.

West High, the Tri-City Athletic League's two-time defending champion, suffered its first TCAL loss -- ever -- on Friday to St. Mary's, 32-27, at Peter B. Kyne Field.

Nick Copriviza caught a 5-yard touchdown pass with 49 seconds left to lift the heavily-favored Rams to a comeback win.

The Rams collect their first TCAL championship and a first-round home game when the playoffs begin on Friday. St. Mary's will host Tracy in the first round.

West, which secured a playoff spot with a win over Tokay last week, travels to Lincoln for the playoff opener.
