You can leave nothing to chance when you put on a new play.

When this one opened in London more than 230 years ago, Oliver Goldsmith's friends made sure that someone with a very loud and contagious laugh was put in one of the upper boxes - just in case.

Actually they needn't have gone to the bother since everyone in the house was in stitches anyway.

And it has been that way pretty much ever since.

Certainly this is as an uproariously funny version as you are likely to see with the added benefit of lots of foot-tapping music.

Things are not hindered in any way by an especially strong cast led ...
