Scholars have paid scant attention to political philosopher Niccolo Machiavelli's 1521 book 'Art of War' and have lumped the work in the tradition of the Ciceronian dialogues such as 'De legibus,' 'De finibus,' 'Brutus,' 'De partitine oratoria,' and 'Paradoxa Stoicorium.' It is remarkable that they have not focused closely on the volume's central anomaly. The book's principal interlocutor is Fabrizio Colonna, who eschewed in theory and in practice Machiavelli's military opinions.
