What fun it would have been to have annoyed high-minded friends by describing The Phantom of the Opera (Sunday, Sky Movies 2, 8- 10.25pm) as an unexpected delight. Alas, the film version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical is unlikely to sway the unconverted. If I hadn't known that director Joel Schumacher had once worked as a window-dresser, I would surely have guessed it from the way he gives fussy costume and set design precedence over things like action, emotion and storytelling.
