Artist Jean Tiffany Youngs Boone had an endless appreciation for nature and a love for the islands, said her daughter, Susan Wachter.

"She inspired us all," said Wachter, a fiber artist.

Boone, a painter of watercolors and pastels, died Oct. 29 at her home in Makawao, Maui. She was 83.

Boone was born on Oct. 12, 1918, in Hartford, Conn.

Boone came from a family of artists. Her father, Eugene Youngs, was an accomplished artist who studied with illustrator Howard Pyle. Her middle name came from Louis Comfort Tiffany of stained glass fame, a relative on her father's side.
