We didn't have a yearbook at our high school. We had a yearbox.

Someone's mother worked at a department store and scored a mess of hosiery boxes. Women wore hosiery back then. The hosiery was packed in shiny, white boxes.

We printed up our Sylvia Plath-inspired poetry, our Kurt Vonnegut/Hermann Hesse-inspired stories, our Carlos Castaneda-inspired whatever _ and some very wiggy photos _ and plopped them in.

Voila. Yearbox.

Needless to say, we didn't have a prom, either. We had a dance. Everyone came, even the severely antisocial.
