Composition, Publication, And Translation

The three stories which comprise this collection - "Early Spring," "My
Recollections of Knulp," and "The End" - were published as a book in 1915
under the title Knulp. Drei Geschichten aus dem Leben Knulps (Knulp. Three
Tales from the Life of Knulp). These were but three of several similar short
prose pieces written by Hesse at Gaienhofen between the years 1904 and 1915.
Hesse's interest in the subject matter of Knulp, though, goes back even
