Apologies to Conrad Rooks, but the only reason his 1972 film, "Siddhartha," is getting a 30th-anniversary rerelease is the appeal of seeing Sven Nykvist's amazing cinematography restored to its full splendor.
Not that there aren't other things to recommend it, including spiritually enriching themes and a star-studded Indian cast. But without the pretty pictures it's just a pale interpretation of Hermann Hesse's classic 1922 book.
