CLOUD DANCER: For its Chicago debut, the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan will present "Songs of the Wanderers," a blend of traditional theater elements and Eastern and Western dance techniques. The piece, about the quest for spiritual enlightenment in Asian religions, is based in part on Hermann Hesse's account of the Indian sage Siddhartha. Cloud Gate, founded in 1973 by Lin Hwai- min, was the first modern dance company in a Chinese-speaking society.
