'DREAMING OF A Speech Without Words: The Paintings and Early Objects of H.C. Westermann" opens Wednesday at the Cantor Arts Center. The 40-plus works date from 1949 to 1962, focusing on a pivotal period in the career of the artist, who died in 1981.
The exhibition title, which refers to a quote from Hermann Hesse's "Steppenwolf," reflects Westermann's desire to express through art what is difficult or impossible to verbalize.
