Frankfurt Mayor Petra Roth presents Israeli author Amos Oz with the prestigious Goethe Prize, awarded by the City of Frankfurt. The committee that chose Oz for the award, which carries a 50,000 euro stipend, cited his 'profound and all-surpassing feeling of humanity, moral values and cooperation.' Previous Goethe Prize laureates include Sigmund Freud (1930), Hermann Hesse (1946), Thomas Mann (1948), and Ingmar Bergman (1976).
