Character Analysis

There are only two major characters in The Journey to the East, H.H. and
Leo. Two minor characters, a nameless pilgrim in Chapter One and Lukas in
Chapter Three, appear briefly to establish parallel situations. Historical and
fictional figures, such as Paul Klee and Don Quixote, appear fleetingly as
League members to enrich the novel with the evocative power of their names,
but cannot be considered characters.
