Standing in the library where Henry Wadsworth Longfellow met with politicians, writers and artists of the 1800s, Hillary Rodham Clinton yesterday promoted her continuing effort for historical preservation.

"We have to make sure the poetry that Longfellow created within these walls will be told and retold and never forgotten," Clinton told a small audience of National Park Service rangers and Friends of the Longfellow House, at 105 Brattle St. in Cambridge.
